"Shines a light on the inhumane working conditions… will stay with you"

THE TORONTO EYE,

9/12/05: 3 stars out of 4:

Prepare to feel really, really bad about your wardrobe: China Blue shines a light on the inhumane working conditions imposed on denim manufacturers in Southern China. You're probably familiar with the basics (long hours, underage labourers, menial wages) but Micha Peled's doc does well at putting a human face to the situation. We follow 16-year-old Jasmine as she leaves her family to live and work at a factory that supplies several companies around the world with designer jeans. What's even more saddening than the indignities she faces is the fact that she meets them with tireless good humour. Her final gesture in the film, a possibly naive but powerfully funny variation on the old joke about the prisoner in the Chinese bakery, will stay with you.  Shines a light on the inhumane working conditions… will stay with you
